This city celebrates street food and fine dining alike and is home to some of the most delicious dishes ever invented. The gourmet capital of Gujarat is incomplete without a taste of some local street food.
We suggest you pull up those socks, loosen those belts and head out.

The dish invented mistakenly while making Khaman Dhokla. Because of this mess up, hence got the name Locha. Now it is famous around the world and loved by many foodies. The best part is you have variety to try, you can have Cheese Roll Locha, Schezwan Locha, Italian Locha.
This spicy authentic vegetable casserole is a winter mixture which is been passed from generation to generation in Gujarat. The origin of the name Undhiyu comes from the Gujarati word “Undhu” which means upside down as it is cooked for hours in earthenware stirring the all the vegetables upside down traditionally.
3. SURTI SEV KHAMNI
Khamni is a dish made from Chana Dal (Split Bengal Gram) as the key ingredient with a unique combination of Garlic, Ginger, Chilies with Sugar that will definitely give your taste buds a delicious ride. Also Khamani the name sounds as a better half of Khaman.
My favorite drink ever, the first ever Indian soft drink. When Gandhiji called for a ban of imported products under the Swadeshi movement, Mohsin Abdul Rahim Hajoori introduced an Indian variant in 1927. The taste was described as ‘the perfect mix of whiskey, rum and soda’ and was called ‘Whisky No’ which eventually became Sosyo!
5. RASAWALA KHAMAN
Dhokla’s are quite the popular snack amongst Gujarati’s. And Khaman is a specialty of the Surti’s. Rasawala Khaman, barley seen and even unheard to the current generation, this dish is indeed a treat to the taste buds. Served originally in little dried leaf cups, the Khaman Dhokla was pan fried and topped with chopped tomatoes, onions and sev. Then a generous helping of a tangy dal like gravy was poured over and served immediately.
A sweet dish, with lots of ghee and stuffed with Dry-fruits though full of calories, not all can resist. Ghari is made on the special day of ChandiPadwa wherein, Ghari worth of millions is relished in Surat.
7. DUMAS’S TOMATO BHAJIYA
Dumas, a port 21 kilometres from old Surat is not only famous for its super natural activities during dark. But also is famous for its Lashkari tomato bhajiya. With the unique chutney and Crispy bhajiya are worth to try.
8. PONK VADA
Ponk Wada, a dish that Surat has the monopoly over, a winter snack for which every foodies are waiting for season to come. This perfectly crisp Jowar grain fritters are just irresistible. Ponk vadas are served with spicy Sev (and Green Chutney.
9. SURTI KHAJA
This delicious crispy snack is very much popular in Surat and basically it gives more taste in monsoon with few drops of lemon juice. Some of the specific surati snacks innovative people added masalas like pepper, turmeric, cumin seeds, in this and tried to sell it on initial stage hot and deep fried in rainy season. This became too famous in rainy season in surati people and it was served hot after deep fried with lemon.
10. COLD COCOA
And how can I forget about the most important part of the meal, the desert! Apart from the regulars like ice-creams, Kulfis and sweets, Surat has its own recipe of old Coco. It worth to drink in the heated summer. Once you have it bet you can’t wait for one more but you have to, wait in a queue! This chocolate milk out stands any other chocolate drink completely.
